All Instructors and GTAs:
Please review your course listings. A few specific issues to look for:
1. Synchronous vs. asynchronous online. Many requested course changes did not note whether the online component of a hybrid or fully online class was synchronous (i.e., meeting virtually at a specific time) or asynchronous (i.e., not meeting at a specific time). The registrar’s office defaulted to synchronous when this was not clearly specified.
* If you do intend to have students regularly use class time virtually (whether through meetings with the instructor, GTA, or fellow classmates), then leave the course as listed (i.e., online synchronous with a meeting time).
* If you do not intend to have students regularly use class time virtually, please update your course to asynchronous (i.e., no specified meeting time) so that students have more freedom to register for other classes. Use this form<https://kusurvey.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bkqzHoNOIsJoyZn> to request a change from synchronous to asynchronous. Please complete these requests by 5:00 PM on Monday, August 10.
2. Cohorts. There is some confusion about cohorts. If you are doing weekly cohorts (e.g. a Tuesday cohort and a Thursday cohort), the registrar has divided the class into cohorts for you. This should be correct but it was done with a new tool that we have not used before. If you notice any issues, please report them to me. If you are doing alternating week cohorts (e.g., even weeks vs. odd weeks), the registrar was not able to do that because that requires them to assign class dates to each cohort. That was far too cumbersome to accomplish with the number of changes they had to key in within a short timeframe. In this situation, the instructor will need to break the class into cohorts and communicate the cohort assignments and the meeting dates for each cohort to the students. This is noted in the schedule of classes as ALTW (see attachment for example).
3. Other errors, issues, questions. Report other errors or questions to me. Include the course, section number, and a description of the error, change, or question.
Please note that we have additional orientation dates starting on August 17. It would be ideal to get the schedule corrected as quickly as possible and get our already registered students settled before this next round of enrollment occurs.
