Taxacom: building such a bridge (between DNA sequence and name) - was Minimalist revision of Mesochorus

And yeah, there may have been some proposals to require DNA sequences for all new names, but I don't think any such proposals have been taken seriously. At least on the Commission, there is an *acute* awareness of the need to accommodate names based on fossilized type material and ichnotaxa, so no such rule requiring DNA would every be taken seriously.
The conversation I find interesting focuses on what might/could be possible/useful in the context of taxa based on non-fossil material and/or extant taxa.
I agree I was a bit clumsy in my wording referring to "all name-bearing types of all scientific names going back to Linnaeus" (and should have inserted the word "extant" in there somewhere). But I hope that doesn't cause anyone to think I intended to make DNA sequences a Code-governed requirement for all new names.
Aloha,
Rich
