Wait.... you mean we DON'T already have full-genome sequences of all extinct taxa including T. rex extracted from the stomach contents of mosquitos preserved in amber?!?!  I want my money back from those movies that came out over the past few years!

Seriously, though -- just because something is not applicable to all named taxa, doesn't mean it's not relevant to a large swath of named taxa (dare I say majority?) -- especially when that swath includes organisms we hope won't join the ranks of the extinct on our watch.
