Mike,I suspect that the issue might be a bit more serious than just a handful of sour grapes from authors with nothing named after them. When I was based at University of Auckland (until 2016), there was already talk about this issue, with at least one ecologist saying that eponyms were inappropriate. Unfortunately, it is linked to the whole anti-colonialist woke movement who see forced equal representation as somehow increasing social justice! These nutters are everywhere!Cheers, Stephen

If you have a name, it is probably one that has been used before.
Someone with that name, possibly even the one you were named after, may
have done something that someone finds offensive. Should you change your
name? No. You are not that offending person, and the name is yours in
your case, not theirs. It is a moniker for identification and
communication. The same goes for species epithets. They belong to the
species, not the offending person.
I suspect that none of the authors have had a species named after them,
and are just jealous.
