Taxacom: demystifying gender agreement

The Zoologists could follow the lead taken by what was the ICBN and is now the ICNafp which has a subsection of the Code specifically to deal with issues only relevant to names of Fungi and fungus-like organisms. For those Zoologist (e.g. those studying Arachnids) who want no gender agreement in names (either from year zero or from a specified year in the future) there could a section of the ICZN to satisfy this requirement ...

Just a passing thought,

Paul

Well I already tried to give my thoughts and some information about the International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi and Plants a few days ago.

To my knowledge, there has never been a proposal in the history of this Code to abandon gender agreement. It doesn't seem to be a big issue in our community.

For those interested, here is a link to the relevant article 62 of the Shenzhen Code, as we call it:
https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.iapt-taxon.org%2Fnomen%2Fpages%2Fmain%2Fart_62.html&data=05%7C01%7Ctaxacom%40lists.ku.edu%7C38bdda2ba7b042ea128108db77bcd222%7C3c176536afe643f5b96636feabbe3c1a%7C0%7C0%7C638235425094332248%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=8JEaccM3jkv%2FbLtj8FrqbUpx%2Fz6ZNK9T88bTbfUWnpQ%3D&reserved=0

At the botanical congresses, the next one coming up in 2024 in Madrid, many proposals to amend the Code will be discussed and voted on, among them the proposals how to deal with offensive and inappropriate names. In my view, a much more interesting and challenging issue than gender agreement. I am looking forward to the discussion there.
