Taxacom: open access journals

Luckily, in taxonomy we have a number of low-cost alternatives, as Lyubomir Penev pointed out, such as society journals, or even Researchgate, private websites, or journals such as Zootaxa, which have no or low open access fees. In fact, the low OA fee has been the main reason why I have published papers in Zootaxa and paid them out of my own pocket.

It is important though that authors publish in a way that their papers are findable and accessible, no matter how obscure they are, e.g. using DOIs.

In the end, we vote with our feet (or rather keyboards).
