Hi Dirk,
This has apparently been going on for quite some time. Wikipedia has an article on "Taxonomy" in general, and that article redirects one to a "Taxonomy (biology)" for biological taxonomy in particular. I guess the widening use of the term taxonomy (in economics and other fields) could cause some problems if one is doing a google search for taxonomy and a geographic term.
But one could get around that by searching for "biological taxonomy" and the geographic term. Try a search for: "biological taxonomy" in Europe. The results are much better if interested in biological taxonomy. Anyway, here's the Wikipedia article on Taxonomy in general: https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FTaxonomy&data=04%7C01%7Ctaxacom%40lists.ku.edu%7C2af9ad35aa8f41394cd408d9f18f6bd7%7C3c176536afe643f5b96636feabbe3c1a%7C0%7C0%7C637806421632430132%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=tuTDrCODknK2IM45MG33jzJtPtSMUTQZh3ZAU6HKJF8%3D&reserved=0

Subject: Taxacom: Do we need a new word for Taxonomy?
There has been recently a lot of (inflation-like) use of the word Taxonomy in the European and German media, but not in the meaning we would think…
This is now also infiltrating environmental NGOs like the Deutsche Umwelthilfe e.V.
See for example this link to the official website of EU:
https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fec.europa.eu%2Fsustainable-finance-taxonomy%2Ftool%2Findex_en.htm&data=04%7C01%7Ctaxacom%40lists.ku.edu%7C2af9ad35aa8f41394cd408d9f18f6bd7%7C3c176536afe643f5b96636feabbe3c1a%7C0%7C0%7C637806421632430132%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=BmBDDA6kU6WBos6mLTMXJuf1evqcXcSV0Vc25XgHXLQ%3D&reserved=0 <https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fec.europa.eu%2Fsustainable-finance-taxonomy%2Ftool%2Findex_en.htm&data=04%7C01%7Ctaxacom%40lists.ku.edu%7C2af9ad35aa8f41394cd408d9f18f6bd7%7C3c176536afe643f5b96636feabbe3c1a%7C0%7C0%7C637806421632430132%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=BmBDDA6kU6WBos6mLTMXJuf1evqcXcSV0Vc25XgHXLQ%3D&reserved=0>
Do we need a new word for Taxonomy?
At least in Europe?
I am really wondering if this helps to rehabilitate taxonomy as science…
How do I explain my students in future what is Taxonomy?
You will see the impact if you google: „Taxonomy in Europe“ or "Europe Taxonomy", there is not one hit anymore what has to do with proper „taxonomy“… (for comparison, just replace Europe with America and try again!). I am wondering if CETAF is happy...
My furthergoing thoughts I will not share with you...
Have fun!
Dirk
