Thank you Rod. That is good news for the authors of the article in Pensoft, and me; not so good for the Catalogue of Life, GBIF, and protozoan taxonomists. Most records in GBIF are for the protozoan. Since both ICN and ICZN declare their independence from each other, their coexistence does not trouble me too much, but I shall look up more about its use for a grass taxon, just out of curiosity.

Hi Mary,

Whichever code applies the choanoflagellate looks like it is in trouble. In zoology the genus Calotheca dates from 1887 for agents of beetles, and in botany the genus dates from 1810 as a name for genus of grasses.

Is there another accepted generic name for the flea beetles concerned? Or are names in the Acanthoecidae governed by some code other than the ICZN?  Or is this an unresolved issue?
