Hi Mary,

Whichever code applies the choanoflagellate looks like it is in trouble. In zoology the genus Calotheca dates from 1887 for agents of beetles, and in botany the genus dates from 1810 as a name for genus of grasses.

The use of Calotheca for a choanoflagellate dates from 1983 https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdx.doi.org%2F10.1098%2Frspb.1983.0057&data=04%7C01%7Ctaxacom%40lists.ku.edu%7Ccf28b38dff134ce4d88b08d9e64f6a4e%7C3c176536afe643f5b96636feabbe3c1a%7C0%7C0%7C637794051037766241%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=LkolwxUoMJ62fy22Vi497amHVhh2WmbyRvls5LPdzFU%3D&reserved=0

Is there another accepted generic name for the flea beetles concerned? Or are names in the Acanthoecidae governed by some code other than the ICZN? Or is this an unresolved issue?

Mary
