Hi Scott,
      If your snow drift hypothesis is correct and bison have the innate
behavior to face into a snow storm, I wonder if such behavior extends to
other bovids as well.  I'm not sure if all breeds of cows exhibit
similar behavior, but some apparently do.  The survival of a cow herd
could depend on the behavior of a dominate cow (if it faces the wrong
direction during a blizzard, the rest of the herd follows suit, and they
all die).  Anyway, I am now wondering if some breeds of cows have
retained such behavior and others have lost it.
