Dear colleagues

 

Please find below three articles  on caused by the Indian Biodiversity Act,
which essentially has a tremendous impact on biodiversity research, and thus
the knowledge about it in India, collaboration with foreign scientists.

 

It might be late - better might have been to act before the enaction of the
IBA - but nevertheless, Priyan is asking for your help. May be we could come
up with a text we could all sign and send in support of this initiative?

May be we taxonomists should organize ourselves better to act before any
such decision are being taken. I would be interested to know more about such
ongoing legislation regarding enacting biodiversity conservation with impact
on monitoring and survey, as described by the Convention on Biological
Diversity

Dear All

Our paper on Biodiversity act and Research, and Predicament of Biodiversity
research due to beurocratic ineptitude have got published in the latest
Curr. Sci with a commentary by Dr. Kamal Bawa (Pl. see the attachments). I
am requesting all taxonomists and biodiversity researchers to express their
opinion through letters to the editor to Curr. Sci. We are moving various
fora, NBA, Parliament etc. to amend the clauses which hurdles research. in
this we require the solidarity of all researchers.
