Director of the Mathematics and Science Teaching (MAST) Institute 

Winchester Distinguished Professorship

 

The College of Natural and Health Sciences (NHS) at the University of
Northern Colorado (UNC) seeks a national leader in mathematics education
or science education for the position of Director of the Mathematics and
Science Teaching (MAST) Institute.  The successful candidate will
concurrently hold for a three-year period the Winchester Distinguished
Professorship, which provides for salary enrichment of an existing
faculty line.  

 

With nearly 20 years of successful activity on the UNC campus, the MAST
Institute is committed to equitable and systemic reform in the teaching
and learning of science, mathematics, and technology at all levels.  The
Institute provides leadership and coordination for projects and programs
to improve mathematics and science education within the University,
state, region, and nation.  Faculty from the NHS Schools of Biological
Sciences; Chemistry, Earth Sciences and Physics; and Mathematical
Sciences, along with faculty from the College of Education and
Behavioral Sciences, participate in Institute projects, working in
collaboration with K-12 educators, faculty from other higher education
institutions, and business/community representatives.  Institute
personnel are very active in securing extramural funding to support
their scholarly and outreach projects; currently, the Institute is
associated with grant awards totaling nearly $4.5 million.  

 

The MAST Institute is housed within the College of Natural and Health
Sciences, which offers baccalaureate through doctoral programs to
approximately 2,500 undergraduate majors and 500 master's and doctoral
students.  Many of the College's graduate programs are oriented toward
education, and included among its Ph.D. programs are Biological
Education, Chemical Education, and Educational Mathematics.  Natural and
Health Sciences is one of five academic colleges at the University, a
Doctoral/Research University enrolling 12,000+ undergraduate and

This tenure-eligible position will include a faculty appointment in the
College at the Associate Professor or Professor rank.  The preferred
