William T. Stearn (1911-2001)

Professor William T. Stearn, author of Botanical Latin and Dictionary of
Plant Names for Gardeners, and the author of some 470 publications, died on
9 May 2001 at the age of 90.

To any who knew William, he was a legend. Robust and hearty of spirit,
charming by nature and with an encyclopaedic mind, he was a true classical
botanist - knowledgable of plants, their nomenclature and their history.
