Univerity of Copenhagen: Assistant professor in taxonomy, nomenclature
and phylogeny of plants
A position as assistant professor at the Botanical Museum & Library
starting March 1st 2000 or
soon after is open. Employment as assistant professor is limited to
three years.
The position is placed at the Botanical Library. According to the
Ministerial Circular
on Job Structure the applicant must have a Ph.D. degree or similar
scientific qualifications within
taxonomy/systematics, nomenclature and phylogeny of vascular plants.
Applicants with a
background in herbarium taxonomy/systematics in combination with other
methods will be
preferred. The research in connection with the position will be
associated to the herbaria with
vascular plants, which holds 1.8 mill. specimens and is curated by three
curators.
Other duties are performed as one out of two botanical librarians by
serving the public,
guiding students and others in search for literature, buying books and
journals, acting as
manager for the staff, administration in connection to the library and
as a representative of
the library in matters related to other libraries and authorities.
The library holds c. 140.000 bibliographic entities and is the central
library for botany in
Denmark with loans to universities and other institutions, private
companies and to the public
through the public library system. The staff includes five persons. The
library is facing a
major digitalization of its holdings and further development in the
cooperation with other
libraries, and daily use and knowledge of computers is necessary.
Furthermore, the applicant
must be able to speak Danish after two years due to the special duties
connected with the job.
The successful applicant must participate in a pedagogical course for
assistant professors. It
must be pointed out that candidates, who graduated more than eight years
ago, can only be
employed if special circumstances are present. The applicant must be
willing to advise Masters
students and other students during shorter courses.
Employment and salary according to the agreement between the Ministry of
Finance and AC on
Academics in the state. In addition to the salary, which is based on
seniority, the successful
applicant will receive an annual, not pensionable increment of DKK
39,414.50.
The application should include 1) a CV; 2) a total list of publications
by the applicant with
reference to the specially relevant papers (max. 10); 3) three copies of
the papers the
applicant wants to include for the assessment incl. statements by
co-authors if any; 4) a short
introduction to intended future research; 5) documentation for library
related work if any; 6)
documentation for educational experience and qualifications.
Attention is drawn to the fact that the applicants will be informed
about the members of the
assessment committee, that the committee can ask for further material to
be included, which
material the applicant is requested to forward, that the committee can
include all papers from
the list in the assessment, that "letters of recommendation" is not
considered to be scientific
material and that the committee therefore not can include these, whereas
the dean may use them
in his judgment of the applicants, that the applicant can be asked to
give a lecture and an
interview for the assessment committee, that information about other
applicants is confidential
according to the rules and must not be given to the other applicants and
that the applicants
therefore only will receive a copy of their own assessment.
If the applicant wants his/hers publications returned they will be send
cash on delivery.
