Postdoctoral and Graduate Student Positions Available at
the University of California, Riverside

Postdoctoral Position in Molecular Systematics

A postdoctoral position in molecular systematics of Encarsia and other
Chalcidoidea will be available for a one-three year term funded by the
National Biological Control Institute (USDA NBCI) and the California Citrus
Board. Research over the first 6-7 months will focus on molecular
systematics of Encarsia and related Aphelinidae. Supplemental research
programs over the longer term will emphasize the higher relationships of
Chalcidoidea and species-level relationships of Metaphycus (Encyrtidae).
Ph.D. and experience with laboratory-based molecular methods and
systematics required; experience with development of microsatellite markers
and/or morphology-based systematics of parasitic Hymenoptera an asset.
Salary $27,900. Send letter of application, vita, reprints of relevant
publications and names of three referees to Dr. John Heraty, Department of
Entomology, University of California, Riverside, CA, 92521. Deadline is
January 14, 2000. For more information phone (909) 787-6351 or send e-mail
to john.heraty at ucr.edu. The University of California is an equal
opportunity employer.

Graduate Fellowship in Parasitoid Systematics

A five-year graduate fellowship is currently available for work on
systematics of Trichogrammatidae as part of an NSF-PEET grant. We are
looking for an exceptional student interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree in
morphological and molecular systematics of these minute wasps, with an
emphasis on developing expertise in monographic revisionary research.
Additional fringe benefits include full support for research supplies, and
both field and museum research abroad. Students must exceed the entrance
requirements of the University of California (contact Kathy.Redd at ucr.edu
for details) and preferably already have a Master's degree in systematics.
Please contact John Pinto (john.pinto at ucr.edu; 909-787-4371) or John Heraty
(john.heraty at ucr.edu; 909-787-6351) for additional details. Current
research programs on Chalcidoidea at Riverside are summarized at
