KU is moving to this multi- factor log in in order to authenticate users. Political Science will start using this effective in September, around September 3rd, 2019.
You can begin to prepare by reading the announcement below and the attachments. I will need to know which of you will need/want to have a "token" provided instead of using their cell phone to pull up a code..

Interim Provost Carl Lejuez recently announced that KU is taking a step forward with regards to campus digital security. By Oct. 1, all faculty and staff will use multi-factor authentication (MFA) when signing in to campus systems. Enrolling our department early provides benefits for all of us, including:

* Control over our enrollment date

* A how-to workshop scheduled at our location

* Technology Support Center staff ready ahead of time to assist with enrollment

* Extra attention and more individualized support as we will be enrolling well ahead of the rest of campus

What is multi-factor authentication (MFA)?
Logging in with MFA requires something you know and something you have. Something you know is your KU Online ID and password, something you have is a device. At KU, we will ask you to register a mobile phone and set that phone to receive either push notifications or text message codes from Duo, our multi-factor authentication partner.

The Duo Mobile application is free to download, is easy to use, and should have little effect on your phone's data usage.
Why do we need MFA?<https://wvu.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/KB/ArticleDet?ID=15390#!>
Passwords are easily compromised and are no longer enough to protect personal, sensitive or financial information. KU's data includes YOUR data-employment information, health information, etc. A security breach could affect the University's finances and reputation, as well as the personal, financial and academic information of students, faculty and staff.
Questions and concerns about multi-factor authentication are welcome. I will reach out again soon with more information about the enrollment process, including firm dates and workshop times in the near future.

Thanks for your attention to this. Have a nice Memorial Day weekend & summer. -Linda
