Taxacom: Taxonomy in the public view

Since a recurring theme on this list and elsewhere is concern over how
taxonomy is valued or not, I thought it may interest some to know about a
radio presentation on taxonomy that I heard last night - while driving home
(it's the only time I can really listen to anything verbal :). It was a
one-hour program on CBC radio (Canadian Broadcasting) focused on taxonomy
and its importance.
No doubt its content would not find complete agreement with everyone (e.g.
anti-cladists won't like the role given to cladistic thinking), but the
portion I heard (about half) seemed pretty much OK. It was interesting to
hear about the contrasting perspectives of Linneaus and Buffon, and the
contrasting metaphors given to each (mask vs veil). Anyway, everyone can
decide for themselves. If nothing else, for anyone teaching taxonomy, it
might be a useful discussion pivot.
