Artificial intelligence would do a better job in most keys I have ever seen,
except for Rothmaler's Exkursionsflora von Deutschland.
Češka and Trumpour (1979) envisioned AI use in identification key writing 45
years ago, but nobody noticed. We ordered 100 reprints and received only one
request for them. Our paper was cited four times as an example of an odd way
of key writing.
The computer language APL also died prematurely. That's the typical fate of
geniuses (or genii?)!
