Taxacom: change in authorship and year for Nicrophorus pustulatus (Insecta: Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) [formerly Silphidae]

Very interesting case of authorship attribution.

The authorship of. N. pustulatus should be attributed to Illiger because 
the footnote was signed by Illiger and so it is clear from the contents 
that Illiger was alone responsible for the name and the description that 
made the name available (Art. 50.1.1). I agree with Prena 2023.

The authorship of N. vestigator is to be attributed to Herschel alone, 
page of description is p. 274 (not p. 275 as Perna 2023 assumed: we have 
to imagine that p. 275 was published later in a different livraison, 
then p. 274 would stand alone). The name was presented as a headline on 
p. 274 (Herschel's German description followed in the next line on p. 
275), with a footnote on p. 274 containing a Latin diagnosis provided by 
Illiger. This made the name available on p. 274: the name was there, and 
Illiger's diagnosis was there, both on p. 274.
The diagnosis in the footnote was attributed to Illiger, but the name as 
such was clearly published by Herschel, so for attributing the name to 
Illiger, the requirement of Art. 50.1.1 "alone responsible for both the 
name (...) and for satisfying the criteria of availability [= the 
diagnosis]" was not met. Herschel was responsible for the name, Illiger 
for the diagnosis. Illiger was not reponsible for both, in contrast to 
the case of N. pustulatus. Under Art. 50.1.1 the name must be attributed 
to Herschel alone.
