These organism are 'treated as fungi' in the ICNafp ... as is the organism which resulted in a large number of Homo sapiens in the USA - a relative of the brown seaweeds but lacking the brown pigment.
Time for some shut-eye methinks ...

Even weirder is that this form is used for Myxomycetes, which are in fact animals!
