[Taxacom] a question about diagnosing species-group taxa

I have an old example: In 1963 Nonveiller described a subspecies of the common European june beetle Amphimallon solstitiale on the basis of different swarming times. The species normally swarms in the evening, but that one population in Serbia swarmed in the morning:
Nonveiller, Q. [should be G.] 1963. Amphimallon solstitialis matutinalis, ssp. nov. (Scarabaeidae, Coleoptera). Acta Entomologica Musei Nationalis Pragae 35: 172-176. [in German]

There is another example of two European species which are very similar and most easily distinguished by their swarming time, Amphimallon assimile and burmeisteri. does any one of you know the case(s) of the diagnosing of a newly described species-group taxon based on the ethological traits?
 
This issue seems to concern current debates about descriptions of new taxa based on the photos of the life animals (e.g.,   https://doi.org/10.11646/bionomina.12.1 ) .
 
Any relevant reference(s) would be highly appreciated.
