Without much thought (I really have to focus on an MS), Luis,

morphology=form
behaviour=action

Cheers

Hi Jeremy,
What is the difference, then, between what you described as behavioural traits and morphological traits?
Thank you.
Best,
Luis

No, if behavioural traits are functions/features of the organisim, as shape, height, colour may be. Mind you, I generally don't deal with behaviour traits, as a botanist, but I am sure some ornithologist might like to chirp in with their favourite behavioural character.

Cheers
Jeremy

Yes, Jeremy, but don’t the «behavious» mentioned by you correspond to the «ethological traits» mentioned by me?

Dear Igor

If you mean formal diagnosis under the ICN or Zoo code, then I hope not, as taxa should be diagnosed on intrinsic features (e.g. morphology, anatomy, behavious, molecules, etc.) and not on extrinsic features (ecology, geology, geography).

Cheers
Jeremy

Subject: [Taxacom] a question about diagnosing species-group taxa

Dear taxacomers.

does any one of you know the case(s) of the diagnosing of a newly described species-group taxon based on the ethological traits?

This issue seems to concern current debates about descriptions of new taxa based on the photos of the life animals (e.g., https://aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdoi.org%2F10.11646%2Fbionomina.12.1&data=04%7C01%7Cjbruhl%40une.edu.au%7C63963b6a8095430adc5008d8f819cd63%7C3e104c4f8ef24d1483d8bd7d3b46b8db%7C0%7C0%7C637532137024808032%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=VwV%2FsAlYPisTnkAwWqzRkOakmTp5QoUdFvUwYCtn3DQ%3D&reserved=0<https://aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdoi.org%2F10.11646%2Fbionomina.12.1&data=04%7C01%7Cjbruhl%40une.edu.au%7Ccec425ab330048b01bc408d8f81ceadd%7C3e104c4f8ef24d1483d8bd7d3b46b8db%7C0%7C0%7C637532151090841827%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=GyS7pS4VxYBNWMrCM85AZgA0Lfm8fyMGUvrGEkL548Y%3D&reserved=0> ) .

Any relevant reference(s) would be highly appreciated.

Cheers,

Igor
