Subject: [Taxacom] Hortus Malabaricus special issue of SAMAGRA
Dear TAXACOMRs
Greetings
The Centre for Research in Indigenous Knowledge Science & Culture (CRIKSC) published the latest volumes of its journal *SAMAGRA* as *Hortus Malabaricus
* <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hortus_Malabaric> Special issue. The details are posted here with the hope that the articles on *Hortus Malabaricus* may be interesting to the Taxacom members also.
Till date it was mentioned that the Frontispiece of the first volume of *Hortus
Malabaricus* <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hortus_Malabaric> was prepared by an "unidentified artist". It was remaining as a mystery, as no detailed studies were conducted. However, after a critical study Prof. K.S.
Manilal<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K._S._Manilal>in his article
"The Frontispiece drawing of *Hortus Malabaricus*. Samagra 5&6: 1-11"
concluded that it was prepared by nothing other than the Dutch Golden Age artist, Gérard de Lairesse.
In another article Prof. Manilal examines the contributions of the 'Hungarian Theologians Associated with *Hortus Malabaricus*. Samagra 5&6: 12-23'.
The third article by Prof. Manilal, K. S. and Remesh, M. is on
"An analysis of the data on the medicinal plants recorded in *Hortus Malabaricus*. Samagra 5&6: 24-72."
The papers are available online at the webpage & blog of CRIKSC
