I have a pleasure to announce a new biodiversity toy --
http://biodiversity.stackexchange.com
It is a still pristine Questions and Answers site which is dedicated to any
biodiversity related questions. It uses a superb (in my opinion one of the
best in the world) community incentive mechanism created at first for
Programming Q/A site http://stackexchange.com but now spread for many other
Q/A portals --
http://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/4/list-of-stackexchange-sites/5#5
What is great about this particular way of Q/A
1. You need to ask question only once, and it will be indexed by the Q/A
engine and google for reuse by everybody else
2. Questions get ratings, so questions that people found most useful filter
up, and not useful questions filter down.
3. Answers are rated too
4. People who's questions and answers are most valuable becoming more and
more prominent on the site.
5. There is a very easy way to keep history of questions you asked and
answered and also see how your ratings on the site changes.
I currently imagine this site to have a wide community, similar to original
StackExchange site where experts and laymen coexist together. The Q/A engine
has a powerful tag-based classification system which allows a 'heap'
approach to questions is such broad categories as for example Programming,
or Business, Parenting. So I have a humble hope that having just one
biodiversity Q/A portal will answer needs of our community
This site hopefully will be endorsed as part of Encyclopedia of Life efforts
which should bring it to a larger community and wider spectrum of usages
Registration is very simple if you already have yahoo, account, google
account etc...
So please try it, and let me know what do you think
