[Taxacom] Question about re-validating a genus

Dear taxacomers:

Hi. I have some doubts regarding the re-validation of a genus that was
previously synonymized. I am not a taxonomist so my question may be
too basic, please excuse me in advance if thats the case.

Consider the following example:

Author_1 described genus_A as having character_A=0.

Author_2 included genus_A in genus_B.

Author_3 segregated from genus_B as genus_A all species originally
belonging to genus_A plus some species of genus_B. However, the 'new'
genus_A now has character_A=(0,1), so it does not correspond to the
original description given by Author_1.

Can this be done? Can I re-establish genus_A even if my new group does
not fit the original description given for genus_A?

I am not trying to do this but have some serious doubts about some
recent published genus level rearrangements that are cases like the
example above.

Thanks for your answers in advance.

sergio
