Hi Paul,
That sounds like a good proposal to me, as long as it only gives
Epacridoideae priority over Styphelioideae. I wouldn't want to see
Styphelioideae totally suppressed, so both can be used as subfamilies by
those who recognize a full Family Epicridaceae. I don't normally go
down to subfamily level (especially for plants), but below I have listed
the subfamilies I would currently recognize for Ericaceae and
Epacridaceae (and their cladistic codings):

            Order ERICALES

  1 Family Sarraceniaceae
  B Family Roridulaceae
  C Family Actinidiaceae
  2 Family Clethraceae
  3 Family Cyrillaceae
  4 Family Ericaceae%
            1 Enkianthoideae
            2 Monotropoideae
            3 Arbutoideae
            4 Cassiopoideae
            B Ericoideae
            5 Harrimanelloideae
            6 Vaccinioideae
            7  {{Epacridaceae}}

 _a_ Family Epacridaceae
            1 Prionotoideae
            2 Archerioideae
            ? Oligarrhenoideae
            3 Richeoideae
            4 Cosmelioideae
            5 Styphelioideae
            6 Epacridoideae

To remove this 'insult' I have again put in the nomenclature proposal
("Proposal to amend the Code") that would keep Epacridoideae (over
Styphelioideae). This did not make it at Vienna, but it did get support,
so I am hoping that it will fare better at Melbourne (maybe its time
just was not ripe?). Publication is scheduled for the May issue of
Taxon.
Incidently, this would also make it possible to protect Chloridoideae.
