[Taxacom] A Fundamental Question for All of You Taxacomers

Glad to know I was not the only one to wonder about this.  (Course it was about 5 decades ago when I was a kid)Here is the response I got at the time from a Vermont farmer who used the horses to mow the hayfields to feed the cows (and horses) through the winter. Cows face the wind because they use their horns to defend themselves whereas horses use their massive and deadly hind hooves to defend themselves.  
May not be scientific but it makes some sort of sense.
