Yes, that's certainly true.  But then, knowing the formatting is part of
learning to use the program; and if you're using someone else's file and
software to re-analyze their data, it's not their responsibility to
teach everyone else how to use it, IMO.  In fact, I've found the more
serious problem is ambiguity about or discrepancies between the analysis
that people describe in their Methods, and what they actually implement
in the software.
