Not sure where you disagree Brian? Are you saying the people should not use names in the absence of a "proper description or typification"? If so, what of environmental samples?

Can't agree there Paul, "phantom names" in database are probably growing at a faster rate in bacteriology than our list of registered names. I am not talking about mis-spellings, but names that have never been associated with a proper description or typification, nor is this likely to be the case in the future. I am even aware of instances where the "database phantom name" 
remains in the database, despite the fact that at the time of publication a different name was used and registered.
