[Taxacom] names pre-1758

Folks,

 

The World Spider Catalog has a number of species whose year of publication
precede 1758, which, according to Article 3 of the ICZN is not acceptable.
For example:

 

Salticus scenicus (Clerck, 1757)

Misumena vatia (Clerck, 1757)

 

etc.

 

There are at least 45 other Nearctic examples. I'm curious why the starting
point for nomenclature is arbitrarily fixed at 1 January 1758 when clearly,
Clerck published these names before Systema Naturae.
