For Western Atlantic marine gastropods species, about 25% (1220 of 4847)
are recorded only from their type locality in the Malacolog database
<http://www.malacolog.org/>. Limiting the query to species named
before 1980, to control to a degree for names that have not yet been
synonymized or that haven't yet been recognized from other localities, I
get about 20% known only from the type locality (764 of 3849).
