Dear Tatyana (and others who may be interested)
I can give you some figures for vascular plants of Madagascar.
Of a sample of 1872 accepted species, representing an estimated 13-15 %
of the entire angiosperm flora, for which we have assessed the taxonomy
and reviewed the existing specimen base, 119 species (6.35%) are only
known from the type specimen and an additional 122 species (6.51%) are
only known from the type locality. Only 125 of these 241 species occur
in a protected area. There is no reason why this data should be skewed
towards either high or low values for the species included. Our data-set
is growing, and can be consulted at The Vahinala Project - The Catalogue
of Vascular Plants of Madagascar website: www.efloras.org/madagascar.
I would be very interested to hear how this compares with data for other
areas and groups of organisms.
Pete

Subject: [Taxacom] species known only from type
Hello:
I'm looking for articles that discuss the percentage of species known
only
from their type specimens. I'm particularly interested in this
information
for extant angiosperm.
Thanks for your help.
