[Taxacom] Cathartidae junior synonym of Vulturidae?

Dear All,
I have been reading some comments on the internet stating that
Vulturidae is a senior synonym over Cathartidae. If so, (1) is there
anything invalid about the name Vulturidae? And if it is a valid name, (2)
has there been any proposal to suppress it favor of Cathartidae?

I can't say I particularly like the name Vulturidae, since it doesn't
include the Old World vultures. However, if it is a valid name and a senior
synonym of Cathartidae, I guess I'll have to start using it whether I like
it or not. Just want to get all the facts straight first.
   ----Thanks,
          Ken Kinman
