Reading the announcement below leaves me wondering if you are aware of the 
work of TDWG (http://www.nhm.ac.uk/hosted_sites/tdwg/) on standardizing of 
geographical schemes (see http://www.nhm.ac.uk/hosted_sites/tdwg/geo2.htm)?
