Pedicularis inconspicua P.C. Tsoong, Acta Phytotax. Sin. 3: 292 & 323,
Jan. 1955 (and see third name below)
Pedicularis inconspicua Vved., Fl. URSS 22: 811, 18 Jun. 1955.
Pedicularis inconspicua P.C. Tsoong, Bull. Brit. Mus. (Nat. Hist.) 2:
17, Nov. 1955.

The first and third names P. inconspicua P.C. Tsoong relate to the same
taxon from Bhutan and represent double publication of the same name in
Chinese and Western journals. (One of many such names published in the
same two papers by Tsoong; all the names in Acta Phytotax. Sin. have
priority over their publication in the BM journal. These are not
actually homonyms; however, in the November publication the spelling of
one or two epithets differed - that in the January publication must be
adopted. One such example is Pedicularis ludlowiana P.C. Tsoong (Jan.
1955) / P. ludlowii P.C. Tsoong (Nov. 1955). The type of those two is
the same and they are therefore variant spellings.

In between the two papers by Tsoong, the Russian botanist Vvedensky
published a genuine homonym P. inconspicua Vved. for a totally different
species from Uzbekistan.

Subject: [TAXACOM] same year, same rank, same code homonym

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for an example of a 'same year, same rank, same code
homonym'.

Does anyone know of an example of two identically spelled names
(uninomial, binomial or trinomial) that were published in the same year
at the same rank and are governed by the same nomenclatural code (ICBN
or ICZN or Bacteriological or Viral)?

Note I am excluding the author string here.

The ICBN does say that near-identical spellings may also be considered
homonyms but I am looking for identical spellings really.

There must be some out there but I just can't find an example.

Would be most grateful for any help,

Roger
