Three examples, all in insects (Mantispidae, Neuroptera):
(1) a recent subspecies name, interestingly published in the same paper:
Mantispilla formosana var. major Stitz, 1913
Mantispilla punctata var. major Stitz, 1913
Neither name is currently considered valid, so neither name need to be replaced.
(2) two fossil genus names, both published in the same family (Mantispidae):
Promantispa Jarzembowski, 1980 (published 27 March)
Promantispa Panfilov in Dolin et al., 1980 (published 27 January)
The former is a junior primary homonym of the latter and was replaced by Vectispa Lambkin, 1986.
(3) two other fossil genus names, published in different orders:
Fera Whalley, 1983 (published 28 Dec)
Fera Hong, 1983 (published Sept in Diptera: Pleciofungivoridae)
The former is a junior primary homonym of the latter and was replaced by Whalfera Engel, 2004.

Subject: same year, same rank, same code homonym
Hi Everyone,
I am looking for an example of a 'same year, same rank, same code homonym'.
Does anyone know of an example of two identically spelled names
(uninomial, binomial or trinomial) that were published in the same year
at the same rank and are governed by the same nomenclatural code (ICBN
or ICZN or Bacteriological or Viral)?
Note I am excluding the author string here.
The ICBN does say that near-identical spellings may also be considered
homonyms but I am looking for identical spellings really.
There must be some out there but I just can't find an example.
Would be most grateful for any help,
Roger
