Invertebrate parts?

I was asked to try and identify SEM images of structures from a
mineralized pocket in a rock shelter. I am flumoxed - it seems as if it
could be chitin structures, but have not seem enough SEM images of
invertebrate bits and pieces to be sure. We don't even have a SEM in my
part of the world. Those that may be interested can see the SEMs at
