About the Symposium

This 5th International Symposium on tropical organisms organized by the 
Zoologisches Forschungsinstitut und Museum Alexander Koenig (ZFMK) is 
designed as a forum for discussions on the origin, evolutionary 
maintenance, present patterns and future conservation of African 
biodiversity. ‘Biodiversity’ will be treated on all levels of organismic 
organization, from molecules to ecosystems. Contributions on all types of 
organisms will be welcome, as well as presentations on electronic data 
management and theoretical models.


Scientific Programme

• 4 Sessions:   Biogeography and Speciation Processes
                 Phylogenetic Patterns and Systematics
                 Diversity Declines and Conservation
                 Applied Biodiversity Informatics

• 4 Plenary lectures: Koen Martens (Brussels), Lorenzo Prendini (New York), 
Jon Fieldså (Copenhagen), Walter G. Berendsohn (Berlin)
• Public evening lecture: Herbert H.T. Prins (Wageningen)
• Martin Eisentraut memorial lecture: Wolfgang Böhme (Bonn)

• Contributed papers and poster presentations

In addition: Special workshop on African Odonata, 6th International 
Symposium on the Chrysomelidae

August 31, 2003 Indication of interest
February 15, 2004       Registration and submission of abstracts

Congress Fees: € 100,-, students € 70,- (including € 40,- for the 
proceedings volume); € 20,- per single day, students € 10,-).
