I would like to find a home for an 1886 reprint I was given last week, that
surveys the fish of the Adirondack Mountains (New York) and includes
descriptions of two 'new' taxa of catostomid (sucker) fish. This will be of
interest to freshwater fish systemicists in North America.
Mather, Fred, 1886, Adirondack fishes, with descriptions of new species;
Adirondack Survey, 12th report, State of New York, p. 1-56.
I have not checked to see if the new species are currently regarded as
valid or even if the family name is correct, but this is the original
report, not a reprint, that includes the original illustrations (ink
drawings) of the two 'new' fish. None of the other fish are illustrated.
The report provides a nice survey of Adirondack fish in the 1880's, with
attention to the southern part of the mountains, the central part of the
mountains, and the northeastern sector. The nomenclature of fish would need
to be checked in order to use the survey data. Of course, this is on
brittle paper, but it is still in good condition.
I will send this without charge, preferably to a fish systemicist. Email me
if interested.
