Research Assistant, Vertebrate Zoology
The Academy of Natural Sciences is seeking a Research Assistant for
the Biodiversity Research Group. The successful candidate will conduct
NSF-supported research on the molecular genetics of clonal salamanders, as
well as day to day supporting laboratory activities.

Duties: Carry outlaboratory experiments as directed by the PIs, make
appropriate observations and maintain organized, detailed records of
procedures and data; Assist in analyses of data, including library research,
data entry, preparation of data charts and carrying out analyses as
directed; Procure supplies under supervision of the PIs; Maintain equipment
in good working order and operate it in a safe manner; Carry out specific
projects as assigned.

Qualifications: At least a Bachelor’s degree in biology; Master’s degree
preferred; experience may be adequate substitute; Two years laboratory
experience in molecular biology, preferably including experience in DNA
sequencing and preparation of cDNA and genomic libraries; interest in
evolutionary/systematic biology; familiarity with computers, including
experience with DNA analysis and graphics programs desired; Good
organizational skills, attention to details, and ability to work
independently are essential. Physical/Working Conditions: Typical lab
conditions; exposure to a variety of potentially harmful chemicals.
