At the beginning of May, I posted the following advertisement for a curator of malacology. The deadline for applications is July 31.
In the hopes of encouraging applications, I provide here answers to questions I've frequently heard about the position.
The salary range is $35,000 to $70,000 +. The low end would be someone just finishing a Ph.D., with no post-doctoral experience. The high end would be a full curator who had tenure elsewhere.
There are no restrictions on nationality of applicants.
There is no restriction on area of expertise by taxonomy, geography or technique.
It is not necessary to have grant funding when hired. Salaries for curators are hard-money, not soft-money (i.e. grant supported); appointments are twelve month.
Curators at the Academy can have graduate students through the University of Pennsylvania or Drexel University (or other institutions by individual arrangment).

Where possible, this person will seek opportunities for collaborative research with other curators in the Biodiversity Group, and with fellow scientists in the Academy's environmental centers. In addition to research, other, equally important, duties include curatorial oversight of relevant collections and participation in public education, museum programs, donor cultivation, and service to professional organizations.
