WORKSHOPS AND TRAINING COURSES

In addition to the main ICCC-9 Programme, I would like to draw your
attention to the Workshops, Satelite Meetings and Training Courses planned
in conjunction with ICCC-9. These include:

Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights Related to Microbial Genetic
Resources (Friday 28 July 2000)

Training Course on Cryopreservation and Storage of Microorganisms and Cell
Cultures (Saturday 22, Sunday 23 July 2000)

Training Course on IATA Regulations for the Packaging and Transport of
Infectious Cultures by Air (Friday 28 July 2000)

Training Course on the Management and Operation of Culture Collections
(Saturday 29, Sunday 30 July 2000)

Workshop on the Role and Development of Australian National Collections of
Microorganisms and Cell Cultures to underpin Biotechnology and Support
Industry, Science and Education (Saturday 29, Sunday 30 July 2000)

Culture collections have an increasingly important role world-wide in the
rapidly developing and exciting fields of biodiversity, biotechnology,
genomics, and bioinformatics. Culture collections provide the common link
between these fields and together provide the microbial, cellular and
genetic resources which underpin biotechnology, and which support industry,
science, research and education throughout the world. Culture collections
comprise a global resource of biological cultures, bioinformatic databases,
and taxonomic expertise which integrates all disciplines of biology engaged
in cellular and genetic research, and its application in industry and
biotechnology.

We invite you to participate in and contribute to ICCC-9. In the tradition
of past Congresses we have created a programme which encourages scientific,
social and cultural interaction in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. We
invite you to contribute to the Congress by oral or poster presentations of
scientific research or other issues related to culture collections to
complement the plenary sessions on topical issues. We have also provided
opportunities for exchange of ideas and experience through round table
discussion sessions.

ICCC Congresses are held every four years and provide the best opportunity
to receive up to date information on the scientific, managerial, and
regulatory issues affecting culture collections and their users. Attendance
is recommended for those working in or with culture collections, and for
those using the facilities, services, and information resources provided by
culture collections of microorganisms, cultured cells, and genetic resources.

SPONSORSHIP AND EXHIBITION

We take this opportunity to express our appreciation of the organisations
which have provided financial sponsorship. We welcome enquiries from
organisations and commercial enterprises regarding participation in ICCC-9
as a sponsor or exhibitor to assist us with staging the Congress and to
assist the attendance of scientists from developing countries.
