Color Standards

My colleagues and I at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden are working on
a Flora to the metropolitan New York area.  I am interested in
color standards being employed not only for plant tissues, but
for any biological endeavor.  I would appreciate any suggestions
or comments you might provide.  I will, of course, concatenate
all responses and post the results of this informal survey.
