5th INDO-PACIFIC FISH CONFERENCE (Noumea, 1997) - FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

Note to e-mail users: the present communique has been released to several
e-mail lists, so sorry if you receive duplicates of it in your box.

On behalf of the "Societe Francaise d'Ichtyologie", we cordially
invite you to attend and participate in the 5th Indo-Pacific Fish
Conference to be held in October 1997 in Noumea (New Caledonia).
The 5th Conference is organized by the "Institut Francais de
Recherche Scientifique pour le Developpement en Cooperation" (ORSTOM) and
will be held at the ORSTOM Centre in Noumea.
The exact dates will be specified in the second announcement.
However, it will most probably take place during the last week of October
1997.
As with the first four Indo-Pacific Fish Conferences (Sydney,
Tokyo, Wellington and Bangkok), the main topics of the 5th Conference will
cover all aspects of the systematics, evolution, biogeography, biology,
ecology and genetics of both freshwater and marine Indo-Pacific fishes. In
addition, a number of workshops will be organized on some specific themes
(e.g. biodiversity, data bases). The main is to promote fruitful
discussions between scientists dealing will all aspects of Indo-Pacific
fishes.
For more information about the 5th Conference, please consult the
URL at "http://www.mnhn.fr/sfi/Congres/IPFC5.html".
We are looking forward to your participation.
