SUMMARY OF ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETINGCompiled by Kasey Symons and Joyce Duncan
Aethlon Editorial
- Mark Baumgartner is stepping down as Editor after 12 years with the gratitude of the Association. As he departs, a new structure has been created to alleviate some past publishing issues.
- The new Editorial staff includes Scott Palmieri as Editor and Laura Higgs Kappel as Associate Editor. Laura is a Research Associate at ETSU, which keeps our connection with the University. She is also the daughter of Jack Higgs, one of SLA's most beloved members.
- Shelly Sanders is also leaving her post as Fiction Editor. She recommended Adrian Markle as her replacement, and he has accepted.
- Authors will now receive proofs of their work before the final printing.
- There was discussion about the selection of editors rather than using the recommendation of the previous editor. It was suggested that the Association might place future candidates on a list to be selected by vote.
- Email contact for the new Editors is in the cc at the top of this email.
- Mark and others suggested increasing the number of Editorial Board members. Anyone wishing to join that group should contact Joyce.
Creative Commons
- Based on a presentation by Jeremy Larance, there was further discussion about making Aethlon work available for Creative Commons, which would allow wider distribution. The group suggested creating a taskforce but voted to allow Jeremy, Scott Palmieri, and Joyce to explore further.
Future Conferences
- 2026 Iowa– June 24-27. Call for papers will go out in November.
- 2027 -- Limoges France
- 2028 -- San Antonio, TX
- 2029 -- Seeking venue! Please let Joyce know if you have interest
Miscellaneous
- Kasey, Fred, and Jeremy will receive periodic documents and lists of Association business to provide a 'back up' plan if it is needed (based on the newly discovered information that Joyce is old)
- Discussion of the need for an 'angel' to assure the viability of the Association and the professorship and to provide a 'home' for the group. Some members preferred an individual, while others suggested corporate sponsorship.
- Discussion of investigating not for profit status for the group.
