Dear colleagues,

I'm writing to ask for suggestions for new texts for my one of my sports lit courses. Specifically, I'm interested in hearing about texts that have worked well in the college classroom, and I'm looking primarily for new (to me) "literary nonfiction" (broadly construed) and accessible and engaging critical essays (eg Dave Hickey's "The Heresy of Zone Defense") to rework a syllabus around pieces students would be inspired to use as models, roughly, and hopefully, speaking, for writing of their own.

I would especially welcome suggestions for well-done autobiographical/personal essays by athletes (or fans/spectators) at any level, as, for example, I've had students connect with the following:

Larissa Pham's "On Running"
Elwood Reid's "My Body, My Weapon, My Shame"
Ross Gay's "Have I Even Told You Yet About the Courts I've Loved"
Onaje Woodbine's "Why I Quit Yale Basketball at the Top of My Game"

Thanks in advance -- and feel free to suggest your own work if you've gone something!

Matt Borushko
