Attached you will find an Amicus brief filed with the Supreme Court in the Alston Case (NCAA v. Alston) that will be argued before the Supreme Court next week. A number of Sport Historians have endorsed the document including myself. The case involves the NCAA use of the term "amateur" to deny NCAA athletes the right to compensation for their athlete services.

Although this is a departure from the Sport and Society format, I am sending it because I think a number of you will be interested in the case and the argument laid out in the brief. Ron Smith, professor emeritus at Penn State, was instrumental in putting this together.
