Lee,
Thanks -- I thought "Arizona" was great. A few resources on Wideman + hoops that I use:

Speaking of John Edgar Wideman, a New Yorker magazine sometime in November 2019, printed his fiction piece "Arizona" that was really an attempt at memoir about his son incarcerated in Arizona for the murder of his prep school classmate. Wideman, who in many senses was the black Bill Bradley (Rhodes scholar who went to Penn a little before Bradley went to Princeton, is a major writer IMO and has also had to deat with his brother being in prison for a capital crime. Wrote about this in MY BROTHER'S KEEPER.

Without embarrassment I can suggest that several of the stories in my collection "The Miller Masks" (including three that first appeared in "Arete" or "Aethlon") engage in a variety of ways with sports. Unfortunately the co-publishers of that book are out of business--but I have a few dozen copies left in mint condition.

Aside from that, I'm proud to say that my novel "The Great Molinas" has been used to good effect in several courses around the country. Alas, both editions are out of print, though many a second-hand copy might be located.

Hope you enjoy the course as much as my students did over the years.

Good luck, Neil

Hello folks,

Does anyone have any suggestions for works of flash fiction that engage with sport in some way? I've had a lot of success teaching a few stories from John Edgar Wideman's Briefs ( https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FBriefs-John-Edgar-Wideman%2Fdp%2F0557310040&data=02%7C01%7Csport_literature_association%40lists.ku.edu%7C0a753d06f9be425e777c08d79372606b%7C3c176536afe643f5b96636feabbe3c1a%7C0%7C0%7C637139991777300010&sdata=nbkWAZhQhEzJqrhIAWVxd0Tcj8p8U9u%2BHI0lezBmvqw%3D&reserved=0<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FBriefs-John-Edgar-Wideman%2Fdp%2F0557310040&data=02%7C01%7Csport_literature_association%40lists.ku.edu%7C0a753d06f9be425e777c08d79372606b%7C3c176536afe643f5b96636feabbe3c1a%7C0%7C0%7C637139991777300010&sdata=nbkWAZhQhEzJqrhIAWVxd0Tcj8p8U9u%2BHI0lezBmvqw%3D&reserved=0>) in the first weeks of my sports lit class and would love to have a few more authors on there.

Thanks in advance,

Matt
