Christine—I’m excited to hear about your opportunity! I’ve been looking through my computer for something you can use. I don’t remember who created the attached document (and it probably needs to be updated), but as part of your proposal, you might propose that you will be giving the teachers a “common language” for instruction across the grades. This document lists the vocabulary that everyone will be using as they teach the strategies. You can attach it to your proposal. I’ll keep looking. Jean

Thanks Jean for sharing this important information. I'm sure most of us are already seeing the negative academic impact, so the more SIM we can get out there the better for all students.

To that end, I have been asked by a local middle school to submit a proposal where I would provide professional development and continued support in the areas of writing. Specifically, I would instruct and support teachers using the Sentence Writing, Paragraph Writing, and Theme Writing strategies throughout the next school year or maybe even two.

I have never developed anything like this before, so I thought I would reach out. Do any of you have a sample proposal you would be willing to share? Something that includes the fee for your services would also be extremely helpful. I have no idea how to market myself and appreciate any and all advice.

Thank you all so much.

Christine

Hi all—This is the perfect time of year to be planning professional development for the fall and the coming year with school staffs. If they are looking at test scores, they are seeing that students didn’t learn much during the pandemic. Attached is one article and a list of other articles that focus on the COVID slide and the decline in academic skills that students are experiencing. My guess is that we are not really seeing the full extent of the slide and its consequences. Once students pass the fourth-grade year without learning to decode multisyllable words and to use comprehension strategies, they are going to be in a world of hurt. This is a key time for us as leaders to supply energy and instruction for teachers who will have to face these students in their courses. It is also a key time to start up Xtreme Reading courses for students who are entering middle schools reading two or more years below grade level. Please share these articles with school staff members in your area, and let us know if we can do anything to help you. Thanks for all you are doing for teachers! You can give them a real boost this fall with new ways to help students. They need your help at this difficult time. Jean
