Dear pders, Attached is the new Edge order form that I promised to you. It includes the flash drives containing digital student materials as single pages. Teachers will be able to use these single pages during their remote instruction. They are likely to need instruction on how to use these digital pages and how to teach their students to use computer tools to respond on these pages. Please caution teachers to adhere to the copyright guidelines as shown on the copyright page of each book and explained below in a recent CRL workshop for pders for remote learning situations. Please let me know if you have any questions. Jean

Copyright and Trademark Details

1. Appropriate use of digital teacher materials during online PD. All SIM materials and programs are copyrighted. That means that you cannot distribute the whole manual, guidebook, student materials book, or program to teachers or put them on a network. However, you are welcome to take a few selected screen shots from any pages in these programs and use them in your PowerPoint presentations as illustrations. Additionally, several pages from LS Instructor Manuals, student materials books , and CER Guidebooks are provided within the PowerPoint templates found in SIMville. If you make video overviews of certain parts of the PD, please provide acknowledgement with appropriate references to the materials within your video, especially if your video is available on a website or network to which the public has access. Additionally, video clips from four of the Content Enhancement Routines are available on a CD or flash drive for PDers to use in their presentations.

2. Appropriate use of digital student materials during online PD. Some of the student materials are now available digitally as single-page PDFs. Like the student materials books, these materials are copyrighted. They are not to be distributed together as a group to teacher participants. Selected PDFs can be used in your PowerPoint presentations to illustrate a particular type of learning sheet. They can also be sent as individual pages to participants to complete independently, in pairs, or in cooperative groups and then to be sent back to you. This type of experience will teach the teachers what they will have to instruct students to do when participating in remote learning activities.

3. Appropriate use of digital student materials during instruction with students. Again, the digital materials for students are copyrighted. Permission is given to a teacher to use these materials while instructing students, just like they would be used in paper form. They are not to be distributed as a whole group or stored in any kind of information storage system or network to which the public has access. Teachers may store student materials within a system to which their students have access in order to complete their assignments.

As an example for a learning strategy, student materials can be sent out individually to students (e.g., emailed or assigned within a student's Google Classroom) when students have reached a particular point in the instruction. If a student needs to use a fifth-grade reading passage after reaching mastery on a fourth-grade passage, an appropriate fifth-grade passage can be sent out to that student. When the student has read the passage, the quiz can then be sent out, and the student would complete the quiz and send it back to the teacher. In other words, the materials are intended to be used at the appropriate time within a student's progress with the strategy.

For any Content Enhancement Routine, teachers can share the device template (e.g., the Unit Organizer) directly with students to complete using online tools within the storage system to which only his or her students have access. These device templates can be found in SIMville. Additionally, interactive LINCS Tables and FRAMES are available through Edge Enterprises on a flash drive or CD.
